Happy 2014! Today marks the beginning of several new changes from the BSA.

The Cooking merit badge is now required in order to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. In addition, Scouts may choose to work on a set of updated requirements released today.

Those that already earned the Cooking MB can now count this merit badge toward their Eagle rank.  Scouts may choose to work on the old or new requirements during 2013-2014.  Starting in 2015, all Scouts that start the Cooking MB must use the current requirements.

Instead of 12 Eagle required merit badges now there are 13.  The total number required for Eagle Scout remains at 21. This means instead of 9 electives the Scout only needs 8.

  1. First Aid
  2. Citizenship in the Community
  3. Citizenship in the Nation
  4. Citizenship in the World
  5. Communication
  6. Personal Fitness
  7. Emergency Preparedness OR Lifesaving
  8. Environmental Science OR Sustainability
  9. Personal Management
  10. Swimming OR Hiking OR Cycling
  11. Camping
  12. Family Life
  13. Cooking

Always in the Cloud.  Always up to date.  Scoutbook has you covered.

Because Scoutbook is cloud based, all these updates are automatically available to you and your Troop right now.  Our entire system has already been updated so your Scouts can start tracking these new requirements starting today.

Those Scouts who already started the Cooking MB can continue working on the same requirements.  If your Scouts start work on the Cooking MB they will see the new requirements in Scoutbook.  All percent complete calculations for rank advancement will automatically reflect these changes for Star, Life and Eagle Scout ranks.

Is there a way to see what awards are needed in the troop without looking at every single scout?
